FORGERY IS BORN WHEN THE DEMAND SURPASSES SUPPLY

Silver has been known to man from a way back .Silver known as argentum in Latin very known among chemist and metallurgist .Silver has a wide application in many fields .It serves as a source of income to many leading countries .It is popular among people all across the world due to silver jewellery .It was initially used as currency in many countries n form of silver coins. It has wide application in electronic sector .Silver is very good conductor of electricity and used in many small chips and even microchips .

Use of silver is not made to a wider range as it is very expensive .Silver is malleable and ductile and finds its necessity in making of utensils, pans and most important is the jewellery in silver .As it is very precious important care and awareness should be taken before purchasing the one .Electroplating is common practise for cheaters and frauds .Silver electroplating is done by using base metal as brass or nickel .Base metal means the metal over which layer of silver will be coated .Here a thin wire of silver is taken in cathode and base metal in anode .Loss of free silver electrons take place in cathode and they move toward anode and forms a layer over the base metal .The whole process is known as electrolysis .Generally the solvent is water but if we want it to be fast silver chloride is used as electrolyte .

In this way you can be cheated .They may even name this as sterling silver jewellery ,as this is the standard usage in market .Proper precautions should be taken so as to be prevented from being cheated .Steps like having a look on the hall mark 925 written in back of the silver item purchased .Another one is using nitric acid .When nitric acid is poured over the silver and if electroplating is used in making of such jewellery then you will observe that that the colour changes to black .In this way you can look for the purity of silver .Forgery is on rise in silver products owing to its soaring demand.
